Latest skype clients (I mean 6.1 and latter) gives you ability to login with you old Skype account and also you can login with Microsoft live account. Old account will not give you any reasonable profit, while logging in with a Microsoft live account will improve your skype experience a lot. After loging in with live accout you can connect it with you old skype account which will allow your account to share your contacts from live account (those, that have being on MSN Messenger previously) and skype contacts, so you don't need both of those applications. Edited: Lync protocol is now also supported by skype so you can chat with lync buddies too and your online state is seen through Outlook mail client. There are some news regarding that in the web. Do you remember, that to send a message to your friend in skype you both had to be online? Now with latest skype clients and live accounts it is not necessary. You can send a message to your offline buddy and go offline yourself. And your friend will get this message as soon as he will get online. Also a great improvement for skype. It will work faster with live accounts, because some of the deliveries are done by server, so it will consume less of you PC resources. And it will work faster and better on mobile phones as well. So, don't hesitate. If you still don't have a live account (it is free anyway), get one here: https://login.live.com/ Update your skype to the latest version. And start it. When login screen appears, use Microsoft Account from the list of available sign in procedures.Whenever you enter with your live account, it will ask you if you have a skype account already and if you want to connect it. Yes, we have and we want to connect. If no, then it will propose you to create one and connect it to live account. Once that is done, you become a happy user of the linked Skype account and Microsoft account which gives you all the latest features in it. Oh, by the way. And while you are doing this, think also on connecting your Skype account with your Facebook account. That is really convenient to read updates from your friends, comment those and repost using your skype client, as well as chatting with your Facebook friends right from skype or even having a video conversation with them.
